 Chiron
Campus Expansion Program
Phase
2 of Chiron's Campus Expansion Program required development of an internal
and external communications plan to keep everyone informed and safe throughout
the course the project.
According
to the communications plan, a newsletter was sent out to the community
yearly. Fliers were developed regarding any unusual construction activity
such as weekend work, partial street closures, or work that may be considered
dusty, noisy, or odorous. A mailing house, distributor, and printing vendor,
were selected and managed for this part of the project.
 Internal
communications consisted of monthly update posters, which were posted
in over fifteen buildings throughout the Emeryville campus, and mailed
out to soome of the global locations. The poster featured photographs
of the construction site, an updated schedule, facts about the project,
and positive information such as the "no injury accidents" record
of the crew.
A project
web site was created on Chiron's intranet for employees, which also containedproject
information and answered frequently asked questions. A construction webcam
was part of the intranet site, which was installed on a nearby roof, enabling
employees and the project team to keep track of the construction progress
in "real time" from their desktops. This proved to be quite
a time and money saver for the team as the site was a full block-and-a-half
away.
 Project
mementos were developed for various milestones, including a coffee mug
for design completion, a t-shirt for the steel workers completion barbeque,
a calendar for end of year, and a preparedness kit for employees announcing
construction kick-off, including project and contact information, earplugs,
and stress balls.
